HAAS UNICA VS HELVETICA

I've recently become a convert to Haas Unica over Helvetica. My curiosity as to my preference, led me to this:

Essentially, Haas Unica came about as a result of analysing the original version of Helvetica, its variants (as they were in 1980) and similar faces and seeking to improve them - to produce the ultimate archetypal sans serif face. A single face to unite them all, if you like. Looking at the comparitive settings of both faces at text size shows how subtle the differences are, with a detail closeup first:

Vernacular Typography

Vernacular Typography is a digital archive and community-based initiative dedicated to the documentation, preservation, and promotion of vanishing examples of lettering in the everyday environment. It seeks to explore, protect, and support the typographic environment in cities around the world that retain their rich traditions of vernacular signage. http://blog.vernaculartypography.com  and  vernaculartypography.com

Halloween Typography Challenge

Um yes: http://vimeo.com/632802

As some of you may know, I really enjoy making home-made Halloween costumes. I always make them night-of, but nonetheless, I enjoy my one-hour craft.

This year Professor Robinson is hosting a Halloween Typography Challenge. So please come! Find the info here.

I am already very excited about starting my creation and hope I can get something going in the coming week. If not, I will be cutting cardboard day-of.... And we'll just have to judge my Olfa knife cutting skillz.

Some costumes from the past. Exhibit A, B & C:

Here, a specialty costume made by a talented friend [Alana R.]:

If someone (or a lot of you) are interested in doing the whole alphabet. Hit me up.

If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

The Indian Government has just announced that the rupee will have a new currency symbol. The new one (the fancy R to the left) will not be used directly on any currency, but will be included in the Unicode Standard, making it easier for everyone to use. But it seems to have lost a little of its charm- especially with its use of the Roman "R". Why fix it? The first one looked fantastic!

Endless Possibilities with Wallpaper

Updated to iOS 4 on my iPhone today- and now you can pick a wallpaper on Lock Screen and Home Screen. The new sample ones what came with the update were mediocre and a few classics such as the frog, fish and aspen trees (my beloved) were removed. Thus, my quest for new wallpaper. Here is my jackpot:
